Here is today's freebie poem, inspired by a prompt from flutterbychild and this image of The Moon by
mythandwonder. Notice that I'm actually weaving together bits from multiple sources: the image given, the symbols that commonly appear in Moon cards across various Tarot decks, some of its many possible interpretations, and things that touch on African or African-American culture.
The moon is a silver coin
hidden in a woman's dark hair
until her dancing reveals
a flash of insight.
The moon is a sprinkle of sequins
flowing on dark water,
stepping stones that turn the river
into a path.
The moon is two spires
that stretch a gate between them,
stringing along
the present and the past.
The moon is an ancestor's laughter
and a sharp bark of warning,
the white burn of moonshine
and the flavor of crayfish cooked in cayenne.
The moon is one card
slipping from a stacked deck
to give you a wink and a hint
on the way out.

Also, the August Poetry Fishbowl is still going if you'd like to drop by and give me a prompt on "fortunetelling, forecasts, and futures."
