Poem: "The moon is..."

Here is today's freebie poem, inspired by a prompt from flutterbychild and this image of The Moon by mythandwonder.  Notice that I'm actually weaving together bits from multiple sources: the image given, the symbols that commonly appear in Moon cards across various Tarot decks, some of its many possible interpretations, and things that touch on African or African-American culture.

The moon is...

The moon is a silver coin
hidden in a woman's dark hair
until her dancing reveals
a flash of insight.

The moon is a sprinkle of sequins
flowing on dark water,
stepping stones that turn the river
into a path.

The moon is two spires
that stretch a gate between them,
stringing along
the present and the past.

The moon is an ancestor's laughter
and a sharp bark of warning,
the white burn of moonshine
and the flavor of crayfish cooked in cayenne.

The moon is one card
slipping from a stacked deck
to give you a wink and a hint
on the way out.

Oh, this is LOVELY! The moon is about the only thing I can look at in the night sky, and briefly at that. Thankfully it is beautiful enough that I don't mind missing the rest.
I'm glad you enjoyed this. I love watching the moon -- though here in the country, we can see the Milky Way on a clear cold night. I've only seen a sharper sky a few times, like way out in the middle of Oklahoma.
The moon is lovely. I get a variation of agoraphobia - which is one reason I just can't live in the very open midwest. And I can't look up at the night sky - too much empty. I tend to be fine in crowds, but open empty spaces and heights bother me.
Too bad about the agoraphobia, but it sounds like you know how to get around it mostly.

That's actually a reference to voodoo being "a way to even the odds when the deck is stacked against you." Also, when a single card falls out of a divination deck during shuffling, that means it has something to say.

Also, the August Poetry Fishbowl is still going if you'd like to drop by and give me a prompt on "fortunetelling, forecasts, and futures."
