Well, lots of folks still buy their browse books from retail stores. It goes to reason that the more tech-savvy consumer shopping online would also have more gadgetry on which to read e-books.

Do any of the kiosks at the physical bookstores really sell many readers and ebooks?

That's a good point. I'm also interested in a cash-volume comparison vs. a title-volume comparison, because ebooks are a lot cheaper than hardbacks, which can be pretty expensive.

I don't know. But the Barnes & Noble store in Champaign has its gadget booth right in front of the door. It's not ten feet into the store; you have to go out of your way to walk around it. They're doing everything they can to call attention to the thing. I expect that boosts their sales to people who are interested in that sort of thing.
