As for the latter point, how 'bout vengeful angels? The recent film Legion had a nice eschatological feel to it.

I'm generally fond of angel/demon stories. One of my stories currently in progress involves a gay angel, and some serious damage to heaven.

Angels messing things up: yeah, that's a very interesting theme, especially when we consider them the things that are supposed to be looking after us, a power we count upon turning against us. Hmmmm...
