Disinformation

Cybermind today included two gems about disinformation:

incestuous amplification n. The reinforcement of set beliefs among like-minded people, leading to miscalculations and errors in judgment.

collateral misinformation
When someone alters a [Wikipedia] article to win a specific argument, anyone who reads the false article before the "error" is corrected suffers from collateral misinformation.

I changed the scientific classification of red foxes last night in order to win an argument with Judy. I hope some stupid High School student didn't suffer from collateral misinformation.

I think that those 2 terms are very descriptive of events that occur in religion (and, by that, I mean ALL religions, inclusive). Then they get cannonized into scripture.
Agreed with the commenter above me. I'd love to be able to use "incestuous amplification" in real life - that's a great phrase. XD
