Regarding that last question, the interactive aspect of LJ is very important to me. Simply put: if there's little to no chance that we're ever going to converse in each others' blogs, I don't Friend you. I've also removed people from my Friends list who've lost the time or inclination to leave or respond to comments. I rarely take these instances personally; in most cases, people have good reasons for "dropping off the map." But there's also no reason for me to keep them on my Friends list if we're not going to talk.

I don't always have time to read the LJ Friends list. There are only a few blogs I follow daily. But I do check periodically so that people on my flist will hear from me at least once in a while. I have started Friending more people spontaneously in an effort to boost my own audience, too. But I don't Friend people who rarely or never update their LJ, or talk about things that just don't interest me -- unless they donate to the Poetry Fishbowl, because they have to be on my flist for some of those perks.
