Shame on the Principal

Here is an excellent essay about racism and the efforts of Arizona citizens to repaint a mural depicting children of color.

I've heard that the protests have caused people to reverse the decision and leave the mural intact, but I haven't seen an article about that yet.  If you spot confirmation, please post a link.

That whole mural thing is disgusting. The Hispanic folks have been there for hundreds of years, well before the rednecks.
Here's an article from three days ago. The money quote: "The community of Prescott immediately responded forming a protest that was held the morning of Saturday, June 5th. At the protest, Principal, Jeff Lane stated that he had made a mistake and praised the over 300 students that are members of the Mural Mice for their artistry and their efforts to remind Prescott of its diversity, which is a source of pride for Miller Valley Elementary School specifically. Superintendent, Kevin Kapp stated that he will now know that the faces on the wall have names. The crowd was assured that Mario and Elijah's faces will be re-painted to their original color. The speech can be found here; Prescott, AZ Mural Controversy."
That rates a WOOHOO!!!
I'll pull this up into a main post so everyone can see it.
As they say,
School's not so bad, it's just the principal of the thing.
:)
Roger Ebert's excellent blog post about racism, which starts off with this incident, says the mural's being fixed.
I did see that one, but it was so heavily creative nonfiction that I didn't count it as news -- I wasn't sure whether the restoration was real or wishful thinking.
