Off-Grid Laundry Machine

This laundry rig looks workable, and could probably be made from whatever junk is handy.  I am generally intrigued by things like this, which offer alternatives to electric/gas/etc. devices.  And, hrm, those poles remind me a bit of a rocking-beam engine.  If you were running one for some other purpose, you could rig this to that; or you might be able to make it run on some sustainable power source, like a creek, rather than shoulder power.  Much potential.

My dad made a laundry rig once (years ago before we had electricity connected) except he threw a rope over a tree and wound it round the barrel sideways and ran it pretty much like you run a rope/pedal driven wood turning lathe. It worked fine but Mom still preferred to handwash in the sink rather than go outside to do the washing. It only got used in hot weather.
That sounds very clever. *ponder* I suspect that a drum-style washer could be rigged to a stationary bicycle. People do that with compost tumblers sometimes.
Well, you'd need hot water, so a sterling engine running of the waste heat from a water heater [solar of course] would do that.
That sounds like a great idea. Hot water is not absolutely required for laundry, but certainly makes the process a great deal easier and more effective.
Nifty!
