That's sad. Not surprising, but sad.
Some lawyer could make a pretty obvious "equal protection" case, assuming the lawyer could be found. Of course the Justice Department could do it too, and it would be really nice if someone in the White House just made an executive decision.
It would be very nice if something of the sort could be arranged.
Unfortunately, this is one in a long string of attempts to get people off this island. The parish has also done nothing to protect Isle de Jean Charles from hurricane surge. I have been out there a few times, and it's a very remote community. I suspect it just boils down to money - it's expensive to evacuate people when storms come and Terrebonne Parish would simply rather not even have to fool with them.
I'm not surprised. Tribal people are generally mistreated, ignored, or robbed by American authorities.

Now if there was oil under that island, it would be getting protected all right, but they'd still be trying to toss off the people.
This is infuriating.
