The Girls Have Done Their Work

Earlier I mentioned that the honeybees woke up several weeks early this year.  I speculated that, gods and weather willing, this could lead to a heavy fruit set.

Here are some red crabapples.

The pear tree is full of pears.  Since 2 years ago was a boom year and last year was a bust (typical for this tree), I was expecting this year to be average.  This is way, way above average.

These are baby Criterion apples.

These are sour pie cherries.  So far, I've only discovered one thing to make with them that really tastes good (cherry limeade pie) but it's quite popular.  If the birds don't eat all of these, I should get some nice pies.

These are serviceberries, which are similar to blueberries, and quite delectable.  Last year the birds ate the few that appeared.  This year there are more berries so I'm hoping to get some myself.

The birdgift tree (actually two merged apple trees, one that produces tiny yellow crabapples and another that produces small sweet yellow apples) is also crammed with swelling fruit.

And the girls are still going!  Right now the black raspberries are blooming, abuzz with bees.  Yay, yay!

I'd love the recipe you use for the sour cherries. My future in-laws and neighbors both have enormous sour cherry trees and to the best of my knowledge the only thing they do with them is soak them in a liquor.
What variety and richness of fruit!
Not everything has grown in yet, but this sure is a good start. There are also green mulberries, and the wild strawberries are blooming. Blackberries have flower buds that haven't opened yet.

I hope the fruit survives to harvest. (Sometimes it blows off in summer storms, or wildlife devours it...) The more I start with, the better the chance!
