This is the newly planted Goddess Garden, with the statue returned to the center (it has to come indoors for winter) and the ring of moss roses set out. The long green leaves are the snow crocus, which will soon wither away.
Here is the whole wildflower garden with the dead leaves raked off; it doesn't look like much in spring. The big blue-green bundles are comfrey. Most of the other spiky green stuff is some kind of coneflower.
Several new things went into my wildflower garden. This is cleome, of which I bought a 4-pack in mixed colors.
This is sweet rocket, which is about to bloom in some shade of blue or purple.
I have now added yellow coneflower to the pink and the green that this garden previously had.
This is Tatarian aster, which the bees are sure to love.
This is larkspur. I like the finely divided foliage. Much of the wildflower garden has lanceolate foliage.

The dirt in the wildflower garden is actually subsoil, which is mostly clay in various shades of brown, yellow, and red. There was some digging done a few years ago, and that area got turned over. I threw down a lot of wildflower seed. Most of the area has since returned to grass, but that patch had a lot of flowers stick, so I rimmed it with logs about 3 years back. I've thrown in some potting soil and mulch, but it's still not very good soil. *chuckle* Which is actually right for certain types of wildflowers, so it's not a problem.

Do what you can with what you have. In my case, accomplishments are limited by body and budget rather than yard space. I still manage to get some stuff done. Even a windowbox brings greenery to life, and is well worth doing.
