Funding Titania

This post has a "day on the set" video and a description of some perks for donating to the crowdfunded movie Titania.  Among the high-end perks is getting listed as a producer!

It makes me think of all the people who dream of being "in the movies," not necessarily as an actor but in one of the behind-the-scenes roles.  Some projects will let you write your own credit description at a certain point of patronage.  Some have options for people to get involved in actually making the project happen, different tasks that can be done, etc.  Being a producer, well, part of that job is often the funding, and part can be promotion -- those are things that crowdfunding donors can do.  In this case, while the money isn't small, it's feasible for someone on an average budget; about on par with an appliance or a vacation, so if "being a movie producer" is your dream, it got a lot more reachable.

Want more involvement?  If you're throwing people money, they tend to do you favors; and if you establish multiple credits as a movie patron/producer, then that can create name recognition.  Many indie films have fundraiser and/or promotional events too.  A determined person could use this route to meet people who are in the field they want to enter, and get a foot in the door.

She's posted a "day on the set" Youtube here: http://bellakara.dreamwidth.org/110968.html today. I don't like my chances of being able to watch it with my internet speed right now.

I like the idea of funding something outside Hollywood. Realistically, I won't get anything tangible out of it for a few bucks, but I like trying to help someone make their dream come true and sticking it to Popular Culture while I'm at it.

Besides, if you think about your favourite movie and could have had a chance to make a contribution to it somehow wouldn't you have done so? I would have liked to.

I actually have crowdfunded a movie, Sita Sings the Blues:

If you look in the credits, you'll find "Elizabeth Barrette" and "Doug Edwards" in the donors list. Having one's name in movie credits is pretty cool. This one isn't an all-time favorite, but it was well made and had an interesting parallel structure, so I'm happy to have supported it.
