Gender: None

I'm surprised this is the first documented case of a person with no gender, since there are genetic misfires that cause that condition congenitally.  Some of the X# chromosome distortions cause developmental failure of sex characteristics so that nothing much materializes.  It's a very rare effect, but it can happen.

This is interesting. Thank you for posting it.

I have some friends who might be interested in this as a concept and because they have struggled with gender issues for much of their lives. Not because they were 'born the wrong gender', but because they felt no 'real' gender connection.

I just wish people would stop confusing gender with sex. I lost a friend because of that issue when someone we both admired had Gender Reassignment Surgery.

Maybe someday the human race will grow up enough for such things to be a non-issue.

I'm reminded of this discussion about mandatory gender identification in LJ profiles, wherein someone pointed out that some studies found up to 64 different gender identifications and that LJ's 3 tickyboxes weren't going to cut it.
I'm almost certain though, that there's someone out there, who if given the 64 item list, would quietly put their hand up and say "But I don't fit any of these..."
I saw a web page once with hundreds of gender identities listed. Most of which I had no idea what they meant. :-)
I would love to see that, or anything like it.
I'd enjoy seeing that list of 64 gender indentifications.
Me too, but not enough to actually prompt me to track it down.
Fascinating. Reminds me of Marion Zimmer Bradley's emmasca.

Personally, I'd like to see a ticky-box for "irrelevant". For many things, whether a person is male, female or buds like an amoeba simply should not matter.
Zie's not the first documented case, merely the first to have official government recognition as not being male or female. A little more info on it can be found in this article.
BTW, thanks for posting this. I'd seen that story before, in the link I posted, and meant to post about it but forgot. So, thanks for reminding me. :)

A lack of biological sex can lead to a person not developing a masculine or feminine gender identity. If the body is neuter, or has been made so, the government is more likely to pay attention. They don't care much for people whose gender identity is neuter or other, if the body is conventionally male or female.
