Little House

I enjoyed this post about building a very small house.  Not everyone needs large amounts of living space.

Hmmm... I've lived in some small places: mobile homes, trailers, UK flats, but, frankly, whilst I don't need a whole lot of rooms and such, I do need one LARGE space, enough for me to entertain a small group of friends, do a Tai Chi or other martial arts workout in, and dance when I think no one is looking. If I lived in a warmer climate, I could probably get away with smaller, so long as I had a spacious yard to do all the above in, but Canadian winters don't do so well for Tai Chi in the open. :p

I AM however, a big fan of open planning and multi-use rooms: the less walls the better. That does tend to cut down the overall size of housing I need, I suppose.
I'm with you on the need for a big open space, in my case for community rituals. But otherwise I'm the opposite, needing not more room so much as more rooms. That's because a key resource for me is wall space, against which shelves can be placed. When I run out of wall, they stick out into the middle of rooms, which is less convenient.
Sounds to me like you need a large, crenellated room to serve as your main library.
That would be fun.
