This poem is spillover from the July 4, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from kengr, antisocialite_forum, curiosity, redsixwing, alatefeline, sweet_sparrow, technoshaman, mdlbear, chanter_greenie, and callibr8. It has been sponsored by ng_moonmoth, across_space_and_time, technoshaman, and alatefeline. This poem belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics. It directly follows " We Are All Related," so read that first or this will make no sense. WARNING: This poem contains some intense and controversial topics. Highlight to read the more detailed warnings, some of which are spoilers. You-all wanted to see the gaybashers who attacked Kenzie curbstomped by the Iron Horses, so here it is. Watch out for conspiracy to commit assault, religious issues, conflicting obligations, bloody souvenirs, desire for vengeance, magical/spiritual stalking of culpable parties, Thunderbird is fucking scary and so is his follower, rude language, using superpowers against ordinary opponents, gaybashers stalking around a gay bar, oblique references to pony play, references to poaching and hazardous equipment, graphic violence, vigilante justice, use of barbed wire as a rumble weapon, probable permanent injury, brutal application of inconvenient truth, temporary hearing impairment, explanation of internalized oppression and repression of identity, complicated transgender issues, and other mayhem. This is a major plot development, so skipping it would leave a big gap, but the main thing you need to know is simply that the Iron Horses hunt down the gaybashers and beat the shit out of them. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. This poem came out of the July 4, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Shirley Barrette. It also fills the "asexual" square in my 5-29-17 card for the Pride Bingo fest. This poem belongs to the Schrodinger's Heroes project. "Missing"There are a few things missing from Schrodinger's life: two fuzzy lumps under his tail, the special deliciousness in the scent of a queen in heat, yowling romance in the moonlight and getting his black ears bitten to shreds by his rivals, litter after litter of kittens that he brought into being. There are a few things missing from Schrodinger's life, but his identity is not one of them. It is something he found, instead of something he lost, as when a sculptor removes everything that is not the statue. He is asexual but still affectionate; his humans are the center of his world, and even without a common language they know this as well as he does, because they call themselves Schrodinger's Heroes. There are a few things missing from Schrodinger's life, but he doesn't miss them a bit. This poem is spillover from the January 5, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from daisiesrockalot and dialecticdreamer. It also fills the "transformation" square in my 1-1-17 card for the Dark Fantasy Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by janetmiles. It belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics, directly following "Insha'Allah" so read that one first or this will make no sense. WARNING: This poem contains topics that many readers may find disturbing. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. Patches and Rampart help Buraq find Haboob to use miracles to make him stop being a supervillain. This includes a manhunt, terrorist activity, Buraq getting shot, messy medical details of a serious bullet wound, flashback to prior injury, the bad guys fragging their own sniper for violating medical neutrality, taking items from a corpse as a point of positive etiquette, teleporting while injured is no fun for anyone, kidnapping Haboob and fixing him by force, when you apply miracles to a terrorist it kind of sounds like you're torturing him, and not everyone is comfortable with this, dubious consent once Haboob starts to regain some sanity, distressing inability to pray in the customary manner, but Buraq is creative with solutions and it works fine in the end, another overwhelming prayer experience ending in a faint that scares the team healer, traumatic guilt, renaming, radical forgiveness of a divinely repaired terrorist, miracles have a blest radius of extra healing, loss of homeland, austere living conditions, feeling unclean, but fortunately Buraq knows how to fix that, uncertainty, and other challenges. On the whole, however, everyone is better off in the end. Because this poem contains a major plot development in world politics, skipping it would leave a gap, even though it doesn't fall into main storylines. Please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether this is something you wish to read. This poem is spillover from the June 6, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by dreamwriteremmy. It also fills the "invisible disabilities" square in my 3-1-17 card for the Disability Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the Shiv thread of the Polychrome Heroics series. Warning: This poem contains some intense topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It features mental issues, because the inside of Shiv's head is always a warning, reference to past communication challenges, the comprehension gap between nonverbal and verbal languages, rude humor. reference to ugly aspects of history including slavery and death from unavailability of safe abortion care, reference to brain injuries, Shiv is resistant to seeking help or even admitting he's not okay, but he actually manages it occasionally, cape politics, awkward social interactions, reference to lousy hairdressers and discrimination against people with special needs, minimally verbal autistic character wrangling with English when his native language is visual rather than spoken, tense (but not violent) interaction with a police officer, who is a bit clunky interacting with a nonverbal person, frustration over being expected to solve other people's problems, loneliness, regret, threats, and other challenges. It's mostly positive, though, as Shiv fumbles his way toward better coping skills. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls, inspired by the "shapeshifters" square in my 1-1-17 card for the Dark Fantasy Bingo fest. It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the Officer Pink thread of the Polychrome Heroics series. Warning: This poem contains some intense topics. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. Nebuly follows Turq's trail and finds Ansel, then Turq finds them. ALL THE FEELS! It's about unexpected meetings, depression, searching for lost friends, divergent senses, self-consciousness, protective behavior, emotional breakdown, regressive behavior, parentification, past mad science torture, a raging case of survival guilt with self-blame, past thoughts of death, past adverse drug reaction, a really terrible end to helpful therapy, and the poor therapist still doesn't even know that Nebuly is alive, difficulty asking for help, backstopping, out of spoons error, desperate clinginess, and other challenges. Despite the cathartic spewing of emotions everywhere, the overall effect is positive and leaves everyone headed into better space. Please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward. Skipping this one would leave a big gap, as it has major plot import. Here is the freebie for the crowdfunding Creative Jam, prompted by alexseanchai. It also fills the "curiosity" square in my 5-1-16 card for the Solo Celebration Bingo fest. "Goldilocks and the Three Planets"Once upon a time, there was a little girl with short blonde curls who wanted to explore space. So Goldilocks got into her spaceship, and she traveled a long, long way in search of planets to explore. The first planet she found was too hot!It snuggled up right next to its sun, and even the rocks melted. The next planet she found was too cold!It was far, far away from its sun, and even the air was frozen. So Goldilocks went home to her library. She turned on her computer and took out her books and studied. She read all about stars and planets and something called physics. Then next time Goldilocks went exploring in her spaceship, she looked for suns with planets that were not too close and not too far. These were much better planets. Some were a little warm, or a little cold, so she kept looking for more middle ones. Soon Goldilocks found a planet that was just right! It was not too hot or too cold, too big or too small, and it had soft soil for growing yummy things. Goldilocks got out of her starship and put up a habitat dome and began to plant a garden. She was very happy in her new home, and people began to say that such planets were in "The Goldilocks Zone." And she's still there!Eventually the aliens came home, but that's another story. * * * Notes:" Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is a fairytale about boundaries and moderation. Read a version online, or enjoy a video. " The Goldilocks Zone" is the area of space around a star where planets are likely to have liquid water on the surface, and therefore may be habitable for life as we know it. (Life not as we know it may prefer other environments.)
