These pictures are from Monday, June 19.

Yucca is almost done blooming.  I was out in the evening and surprised to discover that they are more fragrant at night.  Since they are pollinated by moths, this makes sense, but I had not noticed it before.
Yucca is winding down.

Some of its flowers are setting seed.  This also surprised me, because I didn't think yucca moths came this far north and also I've never seen their little holes (made by exiting caterpillars) on the pods.  But perhaps their range is expanding, or some other moths may have done the duty.

Today is warm and muggy.  We picked up the remaining grass that had been raked, one pile and a row.

Baby robins are still in the nest.  :D

EDIT 6/19/17: I went back out later and did more grass trimming.

Today is a little warm but workable, and sunny.  We got rain last night!  \o/

I threw down some leftover grass seed along the strip where Doug mowed excess raspberries by the fence in the ritual meadow.

Also I discovered that a bird nest at eye level in one of Home Base's lower branches now has two fat baby robins in it.  :D  I hadn't seen them before because it's mostly covered with leaves.  Same with a nest I found yesterday in the hazelnut bush that has two speckled eggs in it.

EDIT 6/15/17: I went back out and finished trimming around the septic garden.

EDIT 6/15/17: I trimmed grass around the firepit.

Today started out sweltering, but a front blew through and cooled off the air a lot.  It made so much wind, I had to go out and repot all the plants that blew off of the picnic table.  >_<

I posted new pictures.

We have barn swallows nesting under the porch overhang!  :D 3q3q3q!!!

EDIT 6/14/ 17:  I went back out twice and trimmed weeds around two sides of the septic garden.  Now I need to do the part in back that goes around the cap itself.  But I'm tired and it's getting dark.  Some other time.

Today is supposed to rain. All we've gotten is wind and a few drops. >_< Fortunately there are more chances over the next few days, but it's still frustrating.

I went out to take pictures today, and when I approached the porch, all three  mourning doves exploded from the nest!  \o/ Mama dove has successfully fledged two squabs this season.  I don't know if they'll come back or not, sometimes they do for a few days.  It will be interesting to see if she starts another nest.  Often they go through several a summer.

Today was hot, but cooled off enough in the evening that I could shoot some pictures.

Today is partly sunny and warm.

Round 1, I watered the potted plants on the porch and trimmed grass around the telephone pole.

The mourning dove eggs have hatched into two tiny, fuzzy squabs.  I found a video of one online.

Raspberries are beginning to turn pink in a few places.  Many of the mulberries are pink.

EDIT 5/26/17 -- Round 2, I pulled weeds around the forest garden.

Also the last shipment of plants arrived today.

EDIT 5/26/17 -- Round 3, I planted three windflowers, two stargazer lilies, and three balloon flowers around the barrel garden; and one White Feather hosta in the purple-and-white garden.

A cool breeze has blown up, downdraft from a storm some distance away.

EDIT 5/26/17 -- Round 4, I planted a white lilac and a black hollyhock.

EDIT 5/26/17 -- Round 5, I sowed more grass in the streetside yard.

It's getting dark, so I'm done for tonight.

I heard rustling and scratching outside my office window.  There in the bushes were a pair of cardinals, fluttering around and courting.  The male had a mouthful of something which he passed to the female.  Aww!  <3

EDIT 5/24/17:  Also today I spotted an indigo bunting perched on the pot hanger above the barrel garden.

Today is sunny, warm, and breezy.

Round 1, I potted up the last of the purple-and-white petunias.

I also startled the mourning dove off her nest when I went back to the porch, so it's still active.

I've posted a picture of the native plants that I bought on Saturday.

Round 2, I potted up the last of the snapdragons, verbena, and gazania.  I put one gazania in the septic garden to see if it would survive the herbivores.

Round 3, I potted up two ice plants, one yellow and one amber.  I also planted a four-pack of pinks in the prairie garden, and bronze fennel in the strip garden.

A male cardinal was engaged in trying to peck my window open, for reasons best known to him.  Not wishing to have my window pecked open, I gave him a territorial whistle in his own language.  He looked up and cocked his head in a listening way.  I whistled again.  He flew off.  This is quite different than a bird's feather-ruffling startle flight.  I have successfully communicated "You should not be doing that in my territory" to a bird.  \o/

I saw two blue jays at the hopper feeder.  I've heard them in the yard, but this is the first I've actually seen any in months.
