Nutritional Psychiatry
Modern medicine is juuuust starting to figure out how important food is, including its influence on mood.  The food you eat, and its quality, can have a huge impact on your mental health and brain function.

One reason I've been writing down a lot of T-American food choices and linking similar local recipes is because they're a lot farther along the path of using dietary choices to support health.  That's mostly replicable here.  You can see it with Shiv in particular, how much better he feels now than several months ago.  That's not all due to the extra psych support he's getting; it's also because he's eating better.

Dumb question a more faithful reader wouldn't ask: Isn't Shiv a fictional character? Fantasy? But, based on a real person? Is there a link or tag that would answer this question at a glance?

Well...

>> Dumb question a more faithful reader wouldn't ask: Isn't Shiv a fictional character? Fantasy? <<

Yes.

>> But, based on a real person? <<

Not exactly. He's more like a conglomerate. It's rare for me to base a character on one person, although there are some of those in Polychrome Heroics where Shiv is.

The reasons I use fictional characters as examples include because doing that with people in this dimension can embarrass someone, and because I use real traits in fictional characters. So for instance, I've done coursework for adult remedial education in prison, which gives me an idea of how such fellows think and behave; and I've read a lot about how nutrition affects the mind. There are some very sensible programs aimed at supporting better behavior through better nutrition. Put those together and you get some of the poems I've written about Shiv.

Not unless you count the thread page that gathers all his poems.

Re: Well...

Thank you for the prompt reply (as always)...and where would we find that thread? (LJ tags and indexing features seem to work differently on different LJ's.)

Re: Well...

It's over on my professional site:

I'll warn you that's a novel's worth of words.

Re: Well...

Thank you! It's been linked...I don't know whether Grandma Bonnie Peters would read those poems, but as a Health Minister I know she'll enjoy the idea of a supervillain choosing the right diet to feed his powers...LOL from two LOLs who are / will be LOL :-D

Re: Well...

Thanks for the signal boost, then.

If it's the dietary stuff that interests you, I actually have several threads which focus on that. Terramagne in general seems more aware than here about the importance of diet in health and healing. So I just started writing that stuff down because it is useful.

Polychrome Heroics is the main series page for my superhero fantasy. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll find links for recipe lists that I've made. Among the threads with a lot of food references are Antimatter & Stalwart Stan (because superpowered teens eat voraciously), Cuoio & Chiara (Italian super romance), Pain's Gray (a supervillain who relaxes by making French pastries), and Officer Pink (much like Shiv, Turq needs feeding up for healing). Reading the whole thing might not be to everyone's taste, but most of those threads have at least one poem that is basically just a litany of food and camaraderie while eating.
