Poem: "Dejection"
This poem came out of the September 2013 [community profile] crowdfunding Creative Jam. It was inspired by a sculpture from Choi Xoo Ang. It has been sponsored by [personal profile] kengr. This poem belongs to the series Diminished Expectations.

Warning: This poem contains some intense material. Highlight to read the warnings. It features artistic nudity and extreme sadness. Also the series in general is dystopic. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before reading onward.

"Dejection"

The man is old and bald,
his body bowed,
sagging over wrinkles
left behind by
what has gone away.

His face crumples inward;
his stooped shoulders
bear the burdens
that have been placed upon him.

His right side
softens with resignation,

but his left
curls a little
with resentment,
just a hint in his closed fist
and his toes clenched
over the edge of the step.

Push him one bit farther,
and he may crumble away --
or, finally, begin to fight back.

Notes:

See the old man.

Dejection is a form of sadness, one of the seven basic emotions. Understand how to cope with sorrow yourself and how to help a sad friend.

There may also be elements of anger.  Know how to handle your own anger or deal with an angry person.
