The Relevance of Poetry
[community profile] poetree has a weekly theme about whether and how poetry matters to society.  Today is my hosting day.  I've made two posts on this topic:

Part 1: Discussing "Can Poetry Matter?"

I love that you pointed out "poetry in the wild" -- especially in pop songs. The most amazing pop song writers create poetry with their words. And non-pop music has poetry too. Country music is incredible with poetry.

And the best - rap! Rap music is all spoken word poetry!

Last week my car got stuck on a hill in the snow. A nice man checked to see if I was ok and when he heard my problem he backed behind me and put his car against my bumper and pushed me up the hill. I was so excited to be going up that hill that lines from my favorite Cypress Hill song came to mind and I started shouting them

"Up up the hill
Fucking up at a party!
Tried to get funny
Put a hole in his body!
La la la la la la la
Look at all of them funeral clowns!"

I think there is a way that poetry set to music can be really insidious.
