I discovered the term "latte liberal" today. ** ROTFLMAO ** *ahem* Moving on to sociolinguistic commentary ... I prefer "latte liberal" to its synonyms "smoked salmon liberal" and "lakefront liberal." It alliterates nicely, is quick and easy to say, and has good mouthfeel. Plus, it's funny. Latte is funny; it's a silly kind of drink, coffee with so much other stuff in it that it's barely coffee anymore. So latte liberal works as a concept for liberalism so watered down that it's barely recognizable. And it's snobby; latte has a reputation as a faux-elite beverage (compared to classically elite beverages such as wine). Heh ... this is as much fun as "sabbat Pagans."
